University of Wales Trinity Saint David has opted into the TEF and received a Silver award.
The Public Services degree provides a professional education to prepare the graduate for a career in the Public Services professions. The programme meets the needs of aspiring uniformed public service officers, support and administrative professionals and equips students with the knowledge and skills for successful employment in public services professions.
Year 1 provides an introduction to the key public services disciplines, including behavioural dynamics, law, social theory, public services environment and develops vital employability skills within applied personal and professional development and leading self modules. Students have the opportunity to work with an external organisation to see theory in action and acquire valuable skills. Year 2 covers finance, human resources, partnerships, terrorism and the current public sector environment, whilst developing leadership and team building skills through activities. Voluntary work experience opportunities exists which will be assessed for credits. Year 3 develops the themes of strategy, leadership, corporate responsibility and management. Students will also study either a dissertation or a research project in a contemporary public sector topic. We have incorporated the Certificate in Knowledge of Policing into the Operational Policing module.
The course will be assessed by a mixture of written coursework and exams. Each module is worth 20 credits which would equal two assessments per module with the equivalent of a 2000 word assignment or an exam per 10 credits.
