This course is designed for those students who aspire to a career in international business management in order to develop the skills and knowledge needed to manage effectively in today’s competitive global multi-cultural workplace. The course adopts a competency-based approach to student learning, and provides grounding in the essential disciplines of effective international business management and inter-cultural awareness.
Year 1 provides a generic foundation to the key disciplines of business and management and personal skill development. There is a community engagement project component designed to familiarise students with the application of key concepts in a practical workplace setting. All modules are compulsory. Year 2 builds on the above and develops knowledge of the international business sphere in a variety of disciplines such as finance, marketing and HR. Year 3 develops this further through greater analysis and practical application by studying strategy, cultural factors, and leadership and management issues in a global context. There is also the opportunity to choose from a range of options which complement the core modules. Students will also complete an extended organisational consultancy project on a relevant negotiated international theme designed to provide practical advice to an organisation in terms of how to improve in the international arena.
The programme will be assessed through a structured mix of assessments which will include assignments, essays, management reports, industry presentations, field study work, development portfolios, exams, reviews, and blogs. Assessments are designed to focus on employability skills required by the industry. Wherever possible vocational-based assessments aim to support critical thinking, ICT management skills, communication, numeracy, problem solving, teamwork, critical appraisal, self-management and leadership.
