BA (Hons) Counselling - top up South Essex College of Further and Higher Education

Undergraduate

Awarded by: University of Essex

The Counselling FdA (with option to progress to BA (Hons)) offers students a strong theoretical and practical base from which to begin their professional counselling practice, while working towards individual accreditation with the BACP. The theoretical orientation is humanistic, with other approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Transactional Analysis also examined. The FdA will include specific training in working with young people, cross cultural populations and women; the BA (Hons), in addition, provides training in working with ethnic and sexual minority groups, and in counselling clients with differing needs (e.g. eating distress, sexual minority sexuality, depression; addiction etc). Students are encouraged to respect the frame and ethos of their core training approach, but also to develop their own individual style and philosophy of counselling.
