This degree has been designed to develop an understanding of sport coaching science, with a particular emphasis on improving your performance as an elite level golfer. You will understand the factors that affect performance, and develop strategies to optimise performance on the golf course. You will gain an understanding of biomechanics, strength and conditioning and sport psychology. In addition to your academic studies you will also enter competitive golf tournaments to continue your development towards becoming a professional golfer. This course has input and hands-on workshops from several leading experts in the world of golf including European Tour professionals and former Ryder Cup players.

Sport at Newman University is ideal for individuals who are seeking to work in the performance sport industry, supporting athletes and teams within a variety of sports.

We have nurtured and maintain unique partnerships with various sports organisations such as Aston Villa Football Club Foundation, Warwickshire Cricket Club, The Belfry, Coventry City Football Club and local schools. Our small class sizes allow for high levels of engagement. Students have greater interaction than is typical at larger institutions, with the experts who teach on the course and also with visiting partners.

You will be challenged, to become an excellent academic; at all levels we will endeavour to see you improve as an individual. Our programmes are a unique combination of academic study, professional practice and a desire to take a standard of excellence into sports related professional settings.

SPECIAL FEATURES
Staff in the department are highly qualified individuals, with active roles in research in their areas of expertise. Staff regularly present at national and international conferences and support elite level athletes. Research produced by the department is recognised both nationally and internationally as excellent and world-leading (REF 2014). You will benefit from our engagements with the sports industry and will be presented with ample opportunities for work placements and employability prospects.

We have been commended on the diversity of assessment methods. You will also enjoy access to extremely good sporting and laboratory facilities. You also have the opportunity to use the skills gained from your course and travel overseas to put your academic experiences into practice. Students have previously visited places such as The Gambia, Sweden and Hong Kong.

Access to HE Diploma Access Students can achieve the requirements with the following combination of Distinction, Merit and/or Pass grades at level 3 achieved from a completed Access course.

Additional fee information

Fees shown are for 2019/20 academic year. The University will review tuition fees and increase fees in line with any inflationary uplift as determined by the UK Government, if permitted by law or government policy, on enrolment and in subsequent years of your course. It is anticipated that such increases would be linked to RPI (the Retail Price Index excluding mortgage interest payments). Students studying the Sport Coaching Science and Tournament Golf degree are required to pay an additional fee of £2,000 (paid yearly in two installments) which covers an additional golf programme including memberships, uniform, course visits, guest speakers and a residential.
