If you are interested in the fundamentals of Computer Science, our degree which is accredited by the Chartered Institute for IT (BCS) on behalf of the Engineering Council, allows you to develop the skills needed to solve complex problems that include analysis, design, solution choice and implementation.

As a student of this course you will gain access to dedicated Linux, Mac OS X laboratories and central servers and you will be taught by lecturers who have close links with the industry and software engineering conferences. In addition, you will have access to robotic equipment including Arduino, mobile robots and sailing robots.
Our degree will prepare you with a variety of transferable skills and employability skills. As part of your degree, you will be required to take part in a residential set of tasks where you and other students will have work in teams to solve problems. This activity will encourage you to improve your: communication skills, analytical skills, time management, organisational skills, implementation skills, research skills, technical skills and you will have more experience of working independently as well as part of a team.
The first year of the course is a very manageable introduction to the field of computer science even for students with no prior experience in the field. You will receive a thorough grounding in web development, computational thinking, software engineering and agile methodologies.
Our Computer Science degree offers excellent career prospects and 98.5% of UK/EU undergraduates from the Department of Computer Science who graduated in 2016 were in professional level jobs or graduate level further study six months after graduating (DLHE 2017). The skills and experience you will gain will open access to a variety of career paths including:

What will I learn? This is an example of what you may study. In your first year you will be introducted to; programming, computer infastructure, web development, problems and solutions. In your second and third year you will discover and undertake the following; our software development lifecyle module ( you will adopt the role of one of the following; project manager, desinger, and you will be required to produce a working software product, following the best current industrial practice at every stage. You will also discover data structures and algorithms; development processes, techniques and technologies, and undertake you individual project.

A minimum grade C or grade 4 pass in GCSE (or equivalent) English or Welsh is a requirement for entry to all our degree schemes. Level 3 KS/FS Communication may be acceptable in lieu of GCSE English or Welsh. For this degree scheme minimum grade C or grade 4 pass in GCSE (or equivalent) Mathematics is also required.
