Bradford College University Centre offers a range of sport related programmes of study. The BSc Sports and Physical Activity Top-up caters to the higher level skill needs of candidates seeking employment in the competitive sporting industry. You will be prepared for external qualifications required for positions in the sector, as well as developing your academic knowledge and critical interpretation of the topics that affect the sporting market. This one year, full-time route is Stage Three of the degree course. Having completed your Foundation Degree you will be in a position to Top-Up your degree to a full BSc (Hons) Sport, Physical Activity qualification. The BSc programme will allow you to further explore your interest and conduct research in to your specialism and produce a final year dissertation. Our Sport, Exercise and Fitness courses guarantee high performance and provide all the support you need to secure employment within one of the fastest growing industries in the country. Over 1.6 million people are involved in some kind of sporting activity and jobs are available across the globe. Hours and working conditions vary between sports, but can involve training every day, working early in the morning or late in the evening and often involve working outdoors in all weather conditions. Working within the sports industry involves working with a cross-section of the community and with people of all ages and abilities in a variety of settings. Our courses are delivered within state-of-the-art facilities at our Trinity Green Campus. Facilities include a 1000m² sports hall, 450m² boxing centre, dedicated sport theory room, an aerobics and dance studio complete with fully sprung wooden floor, a multi-use games area, two basketball courts designed to Sport England standard, three 5-a-side pitches and a full size football pitch. Many of our former students have found jobs in: Leisure Management, Teaching, Coaching and Performance Development for Athletes, Sports Administration, Health and Fitness Instruction, Outdoor Activities, Personal Training, Sports Research, Sports Development and some have even gone on to become GB Funded Athletes aiming at participation in Olympic and Commonwealth Games. Our Higher Education courses are taught by high level sports practitioners, such as Under 18s Manager for England Basketball, Sam Messam. BSc Sports and Physical Activity Top-Up forms a coherent package with either the FdSc in Physical Activity, Health & Well-being or the FdSc Sports Coaching offered by the College, reiterating the curriculum's emphasis on local employment opportunities. Five Modules (including a double credit Dissertation module) will form 120 credits over the duration of the course: Special Education Needs & Disability in Sports & Physical Activity; Professional Development in Sports & Physical Activity; Sports & Physical Activity Research Methods; Contemporary Issues in Sport & Physical Activity; Dissertation.
As a body of staff, we take pride in our links with the industry, due to our roles as sports coaches, personal fitness trainers, cardio-rehab advisers, sports practitioners, fitness consultants and sports development officers. This versatile portfolio means that we are able to support you in your studies, irrespective of your specific niche or area of interest. You will be assessed through a combination of formative and summative assignments, in order to structure your development and ensure your consistent academic progression. Formative assessments may be measured through case studies, presentations, discussions and contribution to forums on Moodle. This variation maintains support where it is needed. Summative assessments will be delivered via reports, essays, examinations and presentations, as well as practical assessments. There is an expectation amongst employers that students will graduate with a range of industry recognised qualifications, principally NGB awards. To this end, the course will prepare students for NGBs by teaching elements of the curriculum, providing opportunities to practise skills and gain experience, make available appropriate equipment and provide accessible courses in terms of location and affordability, rendering employment in the competitive sector more viable.

Points of entry
The following entry points are available for this course:
- Year 1
|HND (BTEC)||Higher National Diploma (HND) or Foundation Degree (FdA) in a sports and physical activity related area or other relevant subject normally with a merit profile or an overall average of 50% in year 2. Alternatively, 240 credit points from Years 1 and 2 of a relevant degree (averaging 55%) will be considered.|
Five years relevant experience in the sports and fitness sector will also qualify you for consideration. It is likely that applicants will also hold a Level 5 qualification; failing this, you will be required to demonstrate your academic skill via a piece of written work.
The programme caters for a range of entry qualifications and experience. Applications from people with relevant experience are actively encouraged. All applicants are invited to contact the Admissions Office or the Course Tutor for guidance and informal discussion. All prospective students meeting the criteria for entry will be invited for interview.
Admission onto the scheme is, in general, based on the academic judgement that the applicant has a reasonable expectation of successful completion of the award, and is likely to benefit in terms of personal development and enhanced career prospects. Applicants will be required to produce evidence of their ability to benefit from HE level study. Applicants may be required to submit a piece of written work as part of their application, or take a diagnostic assessment of their written communication skills.
Applications from those who can demonstrate substantial relevant work experience, but may not hold the specified qualifications, will also be considered.
