This is a specialist vocational programme within sport, health, fitness and exercise offering strong, sector-related emphasis on practical skills development alongside the development of requisite knowledge and comprehensive understanding. It provides a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required in the sector securing access to further higher education or to lead directly into employment. You will benefit from high quality facilities including a recently refurbished gym, outstanding massage clinics and outdoor all-weather pitch. In addition, a large computer suite and library with access to online journals aiding students with the completion of assessments. Areas of focus include anatomy and physiology, nutrition, health promotion, sports psychology, biomechanics, exercise prescription, sports injuries and massage.
You will benefit from a comprehensive programme of academic study skills throughout the course and will have the opportunity to work with young sporting academy players. In year 1 you will cover; nutrition, sports psychology, anatomy & physiology, professional skills, physical activity, lifestyle & health, lifestyle coaching, coaching practice & skill development and sports massage. In year 2 you will cover; exercise prescription, complete a research project, contemporary issue in health, health community engagement, sport & exercise for specific groups, advanced nutrition and psychology for performance.
This course will enable you to progress on to further study such as a full honours degree or additional industry specific qualifications, or you have access straight into employment within the sport, health and fitness industry.
At the end of the course you will have the opportunity to celebrate your achievement with a full graduation ceremony at Chichester Cathedral.

Modules

In year 1 you will cover; nutrition, sports psychology, anatomy & physiology, professional skills, physical activity, lifestyle & health, lifestyle coaching, coaching practice & skill development and sports massage. In year 2 you will cover; exercise prescription, complete a research project, contemporary issue in health, health community engagement, sport & exercise for specific groups, advanced nutrition and psychology for performance.

Assessment method

You will be taught by experienced lecturers who possess extensive knowledge of sport, health, fitness and exercise of the industry and related industry qualifications. Throughout this course, a combination of teaching methods is adopted including lectures, presentations, practical’s and laboratory experiments. All units will be delivered individually and graded as ‘pass’, ‘merit’ or ‘distinction’.
