This programme aims to help students to take advantage of these graduate jobs by providing them with a solid understanding of the industry, the opportunity to pursue work experience and the chance to engage with specific areas of finance that interest them. Students on the BA (Hons) Accountancy and Finance course study intensively, looking at both national and international markets to ensure a firm understanding of the global economy.
The curriculum itself is partly based around first hand advice and real life examples of working in the industry. Not only does this better prepare students for their working life, it also ensures that staff and students are keeping up to date with the latest developments in this fast moving industry.

Assessment method
Most accounting units are assessed through 50 per cent coursework and 50 per cent exams. Some options may be 40/60 per cent weighted, or possibly 100 per cent coursework-based.
You will produce a research dissertation, which gives students the chance to independently use the analytical skills learnt throughout the course and focus on an area of finance that most interests them.

- Year 1
International applicants
Applicants who do not have English as their first language will be required to demonstrate an approved level of proficiency in the use of the English language. The agreed minimum requirements for this course are: IELTS minimum 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each individual component TOEFL IBT minimum 80 with a minimum of 19 in each individual component-TOEFL is only valid for EU students or equivalent. Qualifications are checked before enrolment, and international students must bring their original certificates or certified copies when coming to study at the University. The University also offers a pre-sessional English programme for international students who wish to improve their level of English before starting a degree course. Note to all international students requiring a visa: All international applicants need to be aware that the English language requirements to attend Southampton Solent University, and the English language requirements to obtain a visa from the Home Office, may be different. This means that if you meet the Southampton Solent University language requirement to gain a place on the course, you may still have to meet additional requirements to be granted with a visa by the Home Office. • Direct entry to years 2 (Level 5) or 3 (Level 6)
We welcome applications from students currently studying a Foundation Degree, DipHE, HNC, HND or modules of an undergraduate degree course at another university, who wish to enter directly into Years 2 or 3 of one of our undergraduate degree courses.
• Level 5 (year 2) entry
To directly enter the second year of this course you will need to show appropriate knowledge and experience. For example, you are an ideal candidate if you have 120 undergraduate credits at Level 4 or a CertHE in a related subject area.
• Level 6 (year 3) entry
To directly enter the third year of this course you need to show appropriate knowledge and experience. For example, you are an ideal candidate if you have 240 undergraduate credits (at Levels 4 and 5), a DipHE, Foundation Degree or HND in a related subject area.
