The course will appeal to those applicants who are interested in a technology-based computing course, but who wish to combine that with study of relevant aspects of business. Our focus on business process picks out the area of business where the greatest use of IT is found. You will gain expertise and understanding surrounding modern computing’s essential areas, covering programming, cyber security, data mining, Infrastructure Strategy and project management. On top of all this you will additionally be given a wide range of optional units in your second and third years of study.
After you complete your first year of study you will then have the option to specialise by choosing your named award as one of 8 possible options. This could be in Computing, Data Science, Forensic Computing, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Information Technology and more.
Our students have attended placements with the likes of Microsoft, The Walt Disney Company, BMW Mini, Panasonic, HoiPoi Development (Japan) and Axenic (New Zealand). Graduates starting roles include Business Information Specialist, IT Analyst, Software Developer and Web Developer to name a few.

You'll study a number of units including business and professional issues, computer and networks, programming, relational databases, systems analysis and design, user centered web development, business for IT, data management, infrastructure strategy, project management and team working, systems design, business development and enterprise, data mining, individual project along with a number of optional units and a 30 week work placement in your third year.

Apprenticeships: We recognise the transferable knowledge and skills gained through apprenticeships and welcome applications from students with the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship. Each application will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Mature applicants: We recognise that mature applicants may have a wealth of experience rather than formal qualifications, so we’ll consider your application on these merits if it’s included in your application. You’ll need to apply to BU in the usual way through UCAS and you may be invited to an interview to discuss your suitability for the course based on the experience you tell us about in your application.
