The department is strongly committed to philosophical research and aims to provide a stimulating intellectual environment for both staff and postgraduate students. The department has staff who are active in the following areas of research: continental philosophy; epistemology (especially contemporary work on scepticism and formal epistemology); history of philosophy (especially 17th and 18th century); history and philosophy of science (including philosophy of biology and philosophy of physics); metaphysics; moral philosophy; philosophy of language; philosophy of logic; philosophy of mathematics; philosophy of mind.

Entry requirements

2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent in relevant subject. Applicants to the PhD must provide a detailed research proposal and 2 academic references from their most recent academic institution. Even if applicants have been educated in the medium of English they must meet the English language requirements (certain countries may be exempted from this requirement). This programme requires that applicants meet the 'Postgraduate Standard' level of English proficiency.
