Course summary

Hull York Medical School, a partnership between the Universities of Hull and York, provides a unique undergraduate medicine programme, designed to equip the doctors of tomorrow with the skills they need to deliver exceptional healthcare.

The Gateway Year is designed for students from a widening participation background with a clear focus on recruiting students locally and supporting their learning. The aim is to progressively build skills and experience so that students gradually develop skills of enquiry-based learning within a challenging but supportive learning environment, ready for entry to the MB BS.

Applicants taking Science A-levels that include a practical component will be required to pass.
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) DMM We consider the BTEC National Extended Diploma in Applied Science or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications.
Scottish Higher BBBBB Only acceptable in conjunction with Scottish Advanced Highers.
Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal M2, M2, M3 Cambridge Pre-U Biology and Chemistry at grade M2 is essential.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme 29 points With 14 in Higher Level subjects including 5 in Biology and Chemistry.
Scottish Advanced Higher BC Acceptable in conjunction with Scottish Highers.

Advanced Higher Biology and Chemistry are essential.

Applicants must take the UCAT in the year of application.

Admission tests

University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT)

Only applicants with a UCAT Situational Judgement Test band of 1, 2 or 3 will be considered. Applicants with UCAT Situational Judgement Test band 4 (the lowest band) will not be considered.

5 GCSEs grade A*-C/level 9-4, including English Language and Mathematics at grade C/level 4 or above.

English language requirements

Non-native speakers of English without the required GCSE will be required to achieve a total IELTS score of 7.5 with a minimum component score of 7.0.
