Hull York Medical School, a partnership between the Universities of Hull and York, provides a unique undergraduate medicine programme, designed to equip the doctors of tomorrow with the skills they need to deliver exceptional healthcare.
The Gateway Year is designed for students from a widening participation background with a clear focus on recruiting students locally and supporting their learning. The aim is to progressively build skills and experience so that students gradually develop skills of enquiry-based learning within a challenging but supportive learning environment, ready for entry to the MB BS.

The UK Clinical Aptitude Test (UKCAT)
Applicants must take the UKCAT in the calendar year of application and achieve a Situational Judgement Test band of 1, 2 or 3.
Criminal records declaration (Disclosure Scotland)
Candidates will be interviewed in the same way as MBBS Medicine candidates.
Applicants must meet the WP criteria:
1. to be a care leaver
2. to fulfil 2/3 of:
a) Receipt of UKCAT bursary
b) Live in POLAR 1 or 2
c) None of the parents have any higher education qualifications, such as a degree, diploma or certificate of higher education.
Preference will be given to applicants who are resident at the time of their UCAS application in the HYMS area (i.e. whose Local Education Authority is City of York, East Riding of Yorkshire, Hull, North East Lincolnshire, North Lincolnshire, North Yorkshire, Darlington, Stockton-On-Tees, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland or Hartlepool)
Applicants normally need to have a maximum 3 year gap between leaving school and starting at HYMS.
Recruitment to the programme is dependent on mandatory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance.
There are mandatory health checks at recruitment.
Non-native speakers of English without the required GCSE will be required to achieve a total IELTS score of 7.5 with a minimum component score of 7.0.
