Set on a stunning 400 acre estate, yet in easy reach of London and the M25, Berkshire College of Agriculture (BCA) is an established provider of university level courses in land-based studies.
Validated by the Royal Agricultural University, this 1 year Level 6 Top-Up takes full advantage of BCA's outstanding Animal Centre which houses around 1,200 individual animals from over 100 species.
This Top-Up course has been developed to enable students with prior qualifications at Foundation Degree or HND level to progress to an Honours Degree award. This one year programme builds on key subject areas in cognition, human relations with animals and the role of captivity in animal conservation in order to enable students to develop skills in critical evaluation and analysis of the management of zoo, livestock and companion animals.
One of only a handful of educational establishments to be awarded a Zoo Licence and BIAZA (British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums) accreditation, BCA's exceptional facilities support the study of a wide range of behaviours and hands-on experience of the highest standards of welfare in a professional environment supervised by a highly qualified and dedicated team.
In addition, the BCA ‘Centre for Animal Welfare Research’ facilitates innovative staff/student collaboration, resulting in the publication of several papers each year since its foundation.
- The programme provides a sound academic basis for further progression in postgraduate and/or professional education.
