The BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy programme will enable you to top-up your Foundation Degree in Sports Therapy to a full BSc (Hons). It is ideal for students who wish to move into this ever-growing industry or progress on to post-graduate level study. You will focus on the more advanced skills of a Sports Therapist and gain an opportunity to practice these skills in applied environments, giving you an exciting and challenging combination of academic and practical skills development. The programme is aligned with the core competencies of the Society of Sports Therapists and meets all of the required capabilities for accredited membership status, ensuring that graduates are well prepared for working life in the sports industry. As this course is accredited by The Society of Sports Therapists, they also offer free membership and insurance throughout the duration of your studies. The College has established excellent links with local organisations, which will enable you to practice your skills in real environments and build your own relationships and contacts. This also includes the opportunity for you to gain essential practical experience, providing a pitch side sports therapy service for the Sports Development Centre teams at York College, as well as running the Sports Injury Clinic. The Course is also flexible, as you can gain relevant vocational qualifications in your specialised area of interest, alongside the main academic programme, getting the support you need for a variety of career specialisms. Special features of the programme include Spinal Assessment and Mobilisation, Strength and Conditioning and a range of field-based and clinical-based settings to enhance your work-related learning experience.

The programme provides a quality learning experience delivered by our dedicated and experienced staff, who have extensive experience in sports therapy. The tutors are active within the sports therapy and strength and conditioning fields, where they’ve developed excellent connections with local sports clubs, to help enhance the learning experience and ensure they offer a vocationally relevant programme.
To achieve the BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy, students need to successfully complete the following modules totaling 120 credits at Level 6, in addition to successful completion of the Foundation Degree in Sports Therapy: Acute Trauma Management (20 credits), Spinal Assessment and Mobilisation (30 credits), Strength and Conditioning, Professional Practice and Development 3 (20 credits) and Dissertation (30 credits). Assessment will be continuous via a wide range of methods including practical exams, instructional videos, projects, presentations, and dissertation reports. Some of the additional vocational qualifications, which are optional, may also require the submission of portfolio evidence and the completion of externally set and marked exams.
Upon successful completion of the BSc in Sports Therapy, students can become a member of the Society of Sports Therapists, giving them their licence to practice as a qualified Sports Therapist. Past students have gone onto Private Companies providing Sports Massage and Injury Treatment, Professional Sports Clubs, The NHS in Rehabilitation, Personal Trainer/Sports Masseur roles, further study such as MSc Physiotherapy, MSc Strength and Conditioning, professional sports clubs including the Sydney Rugby League team and Multiple Sclerosis centres.
