University of Huddersfield has opted into the TEF and received a Gold award.
This degree provides a basis for a wide range of careers, including professional accountancy, finance, banking, insurance, the public sector and general management. We’ll give you the chance to get a good overview of all areas of accountancy and then focus your studies on financial services to help you succeed in your chosen field.
Every business asks different things of its accountants. You could end up being responsible for cash flow, or carrying out financial audits. So we’ll start out by giving you a thorough grounding in all areas of finance, before offering you the chance to specialise in particular areas.
Once you’ve got the groundwork in place, we’ll move on to look at financial services. This could cover anything from banking and pensions, to investments and hedge funds. In your career you might end up working on multi-million pound investments or analysing information for a financial audit, so we make sure we cover all the bases.
You’ll get a real feel for what’s behind any successful organisation – how it’s financed and managed. You’ll also have access to experts from some of the leading accounting firms in the UK. You’ll also be able to connect with other leading international, national and local accounting firms thanks to our innovative Partners in Accountancy scheme.* It’s all designed to help you to develop, your professional knowledge and your employability.
In your third year we’ll give you the opportunity to take a placement year that could see you working in a business.
Our courses provide you with a range of professional exemptions from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA).
Our Partners in Accountancy initiative is designed to give you an exceptional start to your accountancy career. In the Huddersfield and Leeds area we currently have nine firms taking part: RSM, BDO, Grant Thornton, Wheawill and Sudworth, KPMG, Kirk Newsholme, PwC, Revell Ward and Simpson Wood.
The partnership builds on established links with many of the firms and has been warmly received by the accountants. The firms will offer accountancy students direct input to their studies from leading case studies on technical and professional areas and providing careers support.
