Undertaking a degree in Sport and Exercise Science at Newman enables you to develop the knowledge, understanding, skills and competencies required for establishing a career in sports science related professions from delivering physical activity programmes for local authorities to supporting elite athletes.
Sport at Newman University is ideal for individuals who are seeking to work in the performance sport industry, supporting athletes and teams within a variety of sports.
We have nurtured and maintain unique partnerships with various sports organisations such as Aston Villa Football Club Foundation, Warwickshire Cricket Club, The Belfry, Coventry City Football Club and local schools. Our small class sizes allow for high levels of engagement. Students have greater interaction than is typical at larger institutions, with the experts who teach on the course and also with visiting partners.
You will be challenged, to become an excellent academic; at all levels we will endeavour to see you improve as an individual. Our programmes are a unique combination of academic study, professional practice and a desire to take a standard of excellence into sports related professional settings.
Staff in the department are highly qualified individuals, with active roles in research in their areas of expertise. Staff regularly present at national and international conferences and support elite level athletes. Research produced by the department is recognised both nationally and internationally as excellent and world-leading (REF 2014). You will benefit from our engagements with the sports industry and will be presented with ample opportunities for work placements and employability prospects.
We have been commended on the diversity of assessment methods. You will also enjoy access to extremely good sporting and laboratory facilities. You also have the opportunity to use the skills gained from your course and travel overseas to put your academic experiences into practice. Students have previously visited places such as The Gambia, Sweden and Hong Kong.
Graduates from our various programmes go on to a broad and exciting range of career pathways and even postgraduate study. Following successful completion of their degrees, students have gone on to thrive in roles in teaching, sport coaching, sport psychology and more professional sports science support. Access Students can achieve the requirements with the following combination of Distinction, Merit and/or Pass grades at level 3 achieved from a completed Access course.
