The HNC in Engineering provides a solid grounding in the key concepts (both mechanical and electrical) and practical skills needed in the modern engineering industry. This one-year programme is designed for those with a keen interest in problem solving, design, and how things work.

You will learn project management, electronics, mechanical engineering, engineering science, and materials.

There are eight units:
• Engineering Design
• Engineering Maths
• Engineering Science
• Managing a professional engineering project
• Electrical and Electronic principles
• Material, properties and testing
• Mechanical principles
• Electronic circuits and devices

You will study in our industry-standard classrooms, workshops, design suites and labs. Part of your course will also take place in our new Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths Centre. Your study will include lectures, seminars, practical workshops, independent study, research and project work.

On completion of this HNC you could progress on to the HND in Engineering, also offered at Barking & Dagenham College.

Access to HE Diploma Overall pass in a relevant subject

Applicants should normally be at least 18 years of age at the start of the programme. Applications are welcomed from candidates with a subject specific Level 3 course such as a National Diploma / Extended Diploma, A Level, Access to Higher Education Course, or a work-based course, such as NVQ 3 or Advanced Apprenticeship with a minimum of 48 UCAS points achieved.
Mature students may present a more varied entry profile of achievement that may include relevant work experience and a range of qualifications that may include professional qualifications.
When making a decision on your academic suitability, we will make an assessment of you as an individual and will make use of information other than just academic qualifications; which may include previous academic performance, relevant work experience, personal statement, references, and any portfolio, written or mathematics test or interview, to make our decision.
