You can enjoy the advantages of studying within the thriving Events industry within Greater Manchester, investigating the dynamic and innovative area of live events, an industry that supports a diverse range of businesses and associations.

Exploring both strategic and operational aspects of the industry, you will cover a range of subjects that will equip you with the skills and attributes needed for working in the industry. Taking on the role of events manager, students on the programme develop the knowledge needed to plan, manage and execute all types of indoor and outdoor events - from conferences and exhibitions to festivals and sporting events.

Your experience is enhanced by industry relevant lectures, visits from guest speakers and industry visits. Undertaking work experience in a relevant environment is an integral part of this course, enabling you to expand your knowledge of the industry and develop transferable practical skills in a real-life environment.

Opportunities to work on live projects within the events industry are also embedded throughout the course. Previous students have worked on events with a range of organisations including The Annual Hotel Conference, The Hilton Deansgate Hotel and The Kamla Foundation.

The aims of the FDA Event Management foundation degree are to:

• Examine, appreciate and evaluate the academic nature of the subject.
• Examine, evaluate and simulate the vocational dimension of the subject with a view to maximising employability.
• Analyse and evaluate the environmental context of the event industry in particular its need for responsible and sustainable management.
• Develop the relevant and industry specific key skills needed to manage events in a range of contexts that include leisure, tourism and sport
• Explore the nature of the research process in an academic and industrial context and develop the business skills and knowledge needed for event management.

Assessment method

Completing project-based briefs, you will be assessed in a number of different ways on this degree, focusing on both practical sessions and theoretical work. These methods will include:

You will be required to complete study hours within college and self-directed study.

You will also be expected to develop your skills in work based roles and will need to complete work experience throughout level 4 and level 5.

Additional fee information

All of the books required for the course are available from the library. However, many students choose to buy some of the core textbooks for the course and/or a laptop. Students may also need to print their assignments and other documents. Campus printing costs start from 5p per page. Estimated costs are £300 for a laptop up to £100 each year for books and printing. You will be required to contribute to field visits throughout level 4 and level 5, including an overseas residential in year 2.
