Course summary

This degree builds on the industry-recognised HNC/D programmes. All first year entrants will start on the HNC and the entry requirements are therefore for this programme. Successful completion will allow you to progress to the second year of the HND. Following achievement of the HND, you can progress to the third year of the degree. Applicants already holding a relevant HNC qualification can apply for direct entry to the second year. When completing your application make sure you choose year two. Applicants already holding a relevant HND qualification can apply for direct entry to year three, again where this is the case please make sure you choose year three when completing your application.

This honours degree gives you the opportunity to acquire skills and develop your individual creative identity within the emerging practices of contemporary art. Working through a range of practical projects you will develop a clear understanding of the theories, concepts and principles of contemporary art practice. The course will equip you with the creative integrity to enable you to operate collaboratively and demonstrate the value you can add to contemporary art practices that impact upon society.

Advanced entry to year two may be possible if you have completed HNC Contemporary Art Practice, with a grade B or above I the Graded Unit.
Advanced entry to year three may be possible if you have completed HND Contemporary Art Practice, with a grade B or above I the Graded Unit.
UHI does not use Tariff points, and accepts a range of qualifications. Applicants with other relevant qualifications or experience will be considered on an individual basis.

Our programmes are taught and examined in English. To make the most of your studies, you must be able to communicate fluently and accurately in spoken and written English in an academic environment and provide certified proof of your competence before starting your course. Please note that English language tests need to have been taken no more than two years prior to the start date of the course. For RUK students studying a consecutive four year full-time degree, only years 1, 2 and 3 incur the fees stated, year 4 is free.
