The HNC Performing Arts programme is specifically designed for students aspiring to follow a career in acting. This is a strong foundation year in developing performance techniques, independent discipline and professional practice which aims to develop students into well-rounded performers.
As members of our ‘IntAct’ Theatre Company students will work within a schedule that emulates that of a professional company and emphasis will be given in the first term to preparation for entry to drama schools. Progress from this course can lead to places at accredited drama schools, universities or directly into the profession.

Course details

Modules

During this program the students will further develop their basic acting skills, which will be delivered by modules covering acting practice (acting techniques, audition skills) , rehearsal and performance skills, technical skills (voice, singing and movement) and contextual studies (script analysis and research skills).
All of the rigorous practical research, modules and projects and academic exploration, will produce work within the scholarly conventions appropriate to an undergraduate level of study.

Assessment method

Assessment methods include range of coursework assessments such as essays, reports, portfolios, performance, presentations, as well as written examinations and a final year major project. The grades from formal assessments count towards your unit mark.
The balance of assessment by examination and assessment by coursework depends on your course choices.

All students complete an Audition/Interview and may be asked to present a portfolio of work as part of their application. A typical offer of either a combination of GCE A levels/Level 3 Diploma or an Extended Diploma at overall Merit. GCSE Mathematics and English Language are preferred at grade C or above, English as a second language at IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. Mature students with suitable experience and/or portfolio of work are welcome to make an application and attend an interview and/or audition.
