Course description

Our three year LLB Law with Management course (or four-years - including integrated placement year) enables you to acquire a qualifying law degree, along with sought after commercial management knowledge and skills. This degree provides a clear focus on commercial and business law, underpinned by management subjects, which will give you a strong understanding of the commercial business contexts in which legal issues arise.

This exciting degree course has been designed with the changing nature of legal practice in mind. It builds on Aston Business School's longstanding strengths in legal and management education, and has been developed with consultation from the legal profession. We will equip you with the legal and business skills you need to be effective lawyer, solicitor or barrister. It also provides an excellent foundation for a variety of other professions where legal knowledge is required such as taxation, accountancy, consultancy and human resource management.

Course details

  • Year 1 – In your first year you will study a mixture of legal and management subjects. This gives you an insight into the law-making process, the manner in which contractual relationships are regulated, and the ways in which financial performance is measured, as well as the economic and psychological issues associated with managing and working within organisations. Subject areas include Criminal Law, Accounting for Law, Organisational Behaviour and Economics Environment of Business.

  • Year 2 – In this year the proportion of your time spent studying law will increase. This will give you a more detailed insight into the law making process and your management and business skills are developed further through your participation on Aston Business School core modules. Subject areas include Law of Torts, Land Law in Business and Business Policy.

  • Year 3 - (optional) You will spend this year in a professional placement, or you may choose to take up an international study opportunity at one of our partner institutions.

  • Year 4 - The final year provides you with the opportunity to learn more about law as it affects corporate activity and employer/employee relationships. Core subject areas include Equity and Trusts, European Union Law and Strategic Management. Optional subject areas include Company Law, Competition Law, International Sales Law and Law of Financial Regulation.

In the second year the proportion of your time spent studying law will increase. This will give you a more detailed insight into the law making process and your management and business skills are developed further through your participation on Aston Business School core modules. The final year builds on the first three years and provides you with a thorough knowledge of the law as it affects corporate activity and employer/employee relationships. The legal and practical issues associated with business activities that cross national frontiers are also explored as are the techniques used to develop strategy within organisations.
