This exciting degree combines modules in history and politics, allowing you to explore a range of ideas and events spanning centuries and continents. As the course progresses, you will build upon a solid theoretical foundation with a diverse range of optional modules. These allow you to specialise in areas such as social and global justice, terrorism and security, and ethnic conflicts. In your first year, you will take core modules in History and Politics to build a solid understanding of the key principles and theories underlying these disciplines. You will build on this in your second year, when you can take our especially designed course - History and Politics: A Problem or a Solution? - and also five 20 credit modules across the two departments (including the History core module, The Contemporary World since 1945). In your third year you will take a special subject in History, a range of optional modules, and complete a 10,000-word dissertation focusing on an aspect of politics or history that interests you the most. You will also choose from a further range of optional modules covering topics that particularly interest you.
