The 2 Year Foundation Degree in Computer Science is directly linked to and validated by the University of Chester allowing you direct access to the final year of the Applied Computing (BSc Hons) degree at the University of Chester. Studying Computer Science will you give you the opportunity to gain the practical computing skills so vital in the creation of computer systems across the digital sector. The foundation of computer science will allow you to study a broad range of topics in designing a developing digital solutions for the challenges faced by businesses in the ever increasingly computer dominated world.
The course has strong links with surrounding industry and input from professionals and Chester University and aims to ensure you have the most up to date skill set. At the end of the course you will have the knowledge and skills to work in a wide range of exciting roles. The course is based in the newly refurbished and purpose built labs of the STEM Centre in the 12Quays Campus. In addition you will also have access to the facilities and library facilities available at Chester University's Thornton Science Park.
First Year Modules (Level 4):
•Data communications and networking technologies (CCNA)
•Continuing professional development (120 hours work experience)
•Introduction to programming
Second Year Modules (Level 5)
•Operation and management of Local Area Networks (CCNA)
•Continuing professional development (150 hours work experience)
•Further programming ,Advanced web design
You will typically spend 13 hours in classroom-based sessions at the College over 2 days a week. Additional hours outside of timetabled sessions will be required to undertake independent study and completing assignments. Please note that a selection of these modules are subject to change following revalidation of the course.
The course is assessed by a combination of methods e.g. portfolios, projects, reports, research, case studies, poster displays, presentations, work-based assessments and examinations.

Wirral Met College does not currently hold a Tier 4 licence to sponsor applicants who need a student visa to allow them to study in the UK, we are therefore only able to proceed with applications from those with current status which allows study.
Candidates need to have 3 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English and maths, plus a minimum of 48 UCAS points from any of the following courses:
•AS/A2 - A Levels
•Alternatively an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent or a pass in an appropriate kite-marked Access to Higher Education course Where possible an academic or vocational reference will be required to ensure suitability for this level of course.
Experienced candidates who do not meet the above admissions requirements will be considered for entry if they can demonstrate that they have relevant vocational practice, motivation and personal qualities appropriate for foundation degree level work.
