This challenging course is designed for students looking to pursue a career in Musical Theatre. Building on the core skills in acting, singing and dance, to support students in becoming well-rounded performers.
Students will work to a schedule that emulates that of a professional company. Emphasis will be given in the first term to preparation for entry to conservatoire/drama schools and the year will culminate with a showcase.
There will be the opportunity to study a broad range of modules within the course including- Development of Acting Skills, Physical Theatre Performance and Creative Arts Professional Practice. Progress from the course can lead to Drama School, University or directly into the profession.

Modules

Units: Creative Arts Research Skill; Creative Arts Professional Practice; Development of Acting Skills; Physical Theatre Performance; Dance for Musical Theatre; Jazz Dance Technique and Performance; Tap Dance Technique and Performance; Musical Theatre Performance; Singing for Musical Theatre.

Assessment method

Assessment methods include range of coursework assessments such as essays, reports, portfolios, performance, presentations, as well as written examinations and a final year major project. The grades from formal assessments count towards your unit mark.
The balance of assessment by examination and assessment by coursework depends on your course choices.

This course is aimed at those students who can demonstrate prior relevant experience, academic or transferable skills in Dance/Drama/Music or related studies in the Performing Arts. Aptitude in Performing Arts is usually demonstrated by a solo piece and/group exercise during an obligatory audition session.
