The Northern School of Art (formerly Cleveland College of Art and Design) has opted into the TEF and received a Gold award.
This exciting programme will encourage conceptual approaches of contemporary contour fashion within the challenging arena of lingerie, structured body-wear, swimwear and active-wear, exploring the fashion contour by pushing the boundaries of design within the specialisms.
This degree will offer you the opportunity to develop specialist skills within creative design practice, pattern cutting and technical competence using CAD and 3D prototyping for the realisation of specialist contour fashion.
There are opportunities to work with established companies both nationally and internationally. You can develop your specialism within the fashion arena in areas such as:
• Intimate apparel
• Structured body wear
• Active wear
Dr Carol Harris heads up Fashion with Body Contour at The Northern School of Art and has been specifically chosen for the position due to her highly prestigious career at Savannah College of Design, where she held a role that most fashion academics dream of having; Professor of Fashion. She brings with her a wealth of experience to offer students in lingerie, structured body-wear, swimwear and active-wear which push the boundaries of design.
Carol’s academic profile which spans almost twenty years and boasts industry contacts such as Jay Alexander (Runway Coach for Alexander McQueen and star of America’s Next Top Model), Andre-Leon Talley (former editor-at-large at American Vogue) as well as producing work on a freelance basis for Calvin Klein and Oscar De La Renta. Carol’s teaching has produced graduates such as Audra, whose ‘Vision’ collection is sold exclusively by net-a-porter and is a Paris Fashion Week regular.
She is a lifetime member of Cambridge Who’s Who Executive and Professional Women.
In your first year (Level 4) you will explore: Experimental Drawing and illustration both analogue and digital: Trends and creative processes: Fabric manipulation and embellishment techniques: Contemporary body contour fashion solutions and garments: Production techniques for contour fashion solutions.
In the second year (Level 5) you will develop: CAD skills for pattern drafting, 3D modelling and portfolio skills: Knowledge and understanding of the skills required within the body contour industry: Design and development for a specific market: Real-life skills within the industry through work experience opportunities: Professional and design skills through client-based live projects: Independent learning through negotiated projects.
In your third year (Level 6) you will produce: A final major project: Dissertation: Exhibition: Professional portfolios for traditional and digital routes: Self-promotional material.
In course assessment. Each module is assessed on completion and given a percentage mark.

If you are a mature applicant (i.e. 21+ years), we will place more emphasis on your portfolio and the skills and experience you can demonstrate at interview.
Your portfolio, which you bring to interview, is an integral part of the assessment. It should demonstrate your current skills, interests and knowledge where appropriate.
It is also expected that you will bring evidence of written work to interview and/or have a Level 2 qualification in English/Literacy.
