Our LLM Law will develop your legal expertise – whether you’re new to the field or want to take your career to the next level. Surrounded by legal experts We’re carrying out leading research in a variety of areas – international law and human rights, crime, child and family justice, law and society, and more. All this work means our teaching on legal, jurisprudential and socio-legal issues is always informed by the latest practice. Our Research Methods in Law module will give you insight into theoretical approaches to the study of law, as well as practical guidance on research design and ethics. Carry out your own in-depth project You’ll apply your knowledge to a dissertation which will address a key legal question or issue. Past students have looked at areas like terrorism, breaches of human rights in the garments industry, and legal issues in VR and the metaverse. Carrying out your own research is a brilliant opportunity to contribute to the legal and academic community with new, original research and writing. You’ll have support from your supervisor throughout every step of the process.

Modules

Core module: Dissertation. Optional modules may include: Contracts and companies; conflicts of law in business relations; corporate governance; corporations in international business law; international environmental law; European and international competition law; European union law; gender, sexualities and human rights; independent research module; international business law and institutions; environmental law; international law; international criminal law; international family law; international human rights law; international terrorism and the law; insolvency law; intellectual property law; law and global health; the law of international organisations and institutions; the rights of peoples; the right to adequate food as a human right; transitional justice, human rights and peacebuilding.

Assessment method

Assessment methods include: Coursework and dissertation.

Entry requirements

Undergraduate Degree: 2:1 (Hons) degree (UK or equivalent) in Law or any other subject. We will also consider applications on an individual basis if you have lower qualifications, or a qualification that is not included on our list of international qualifications, or experience in professional legal practice. If you have studied outside of the UK, you can check your qualifications on our website. English Language: IELTS - Overall score of at least 6.5, with no individual element below 5.5 We consider tests from other providers, which can be found on our website.
