This degree programme studies cinema and television as major forces of enjoyment and knowledge within modern culture. This degree programme examines the theatrical event and theatre culture from critical, historical and practical perspectives. Why study this course at the University of Glasgow? We have strong connections with Glasgow’s creative and cultural organisations, representatives of which contribute to our programme (eg talks from policymakers and screen practitioners on our core course Media & Cultural Policy). We have close connections with the theatre industry, giving you opportunities to learn from and engage with practitioners of national and international standing. Career Prospects? This programme is a valuable preparation for careers in various aspects of the media, arts and cultural industries as well as for non-media-related careers (eg teaching, public relations). Immediate job destinations for recent graduates include production coordinator for BBC Studios, PR assistant for a creative communications agency and diversity standards’ analyst for the British Film Institute. Older graduates have gone on to establish successful careers as TV producers, arts administrators, educators and leaders within non-profit organisations. Our graduates have gone on to a wide range of careers, many of which are closely connected to professional theatre-making, arts production and management. Recent graduates have, for instance, become successful theatre directors, casting agents, arts managers, producers and administrators, stand-up comedians and playwrights. Others take career paths in, for example, teaching or community arts.
