This is the 4 year course which includes a Professional Placement Year. Want to specialise in tourism? Become a budding business owner? BA (Hons) Business and Management (Tourism Management) at Bath Spa University is an innovative course offering specialism in Tourism Management. You’ll develop core skills needed to excel in all kinds of businesses and experience exceptional learning environments. You’ll be supported by academic staff with business experience who will assist you along the way.

More about the Professional Placement Year A Professional Placement Year (PPY), traditionally known as a sandwich year, is where a student undertakes a period of work with an external organisation for between 9-13 months. The placement occurs between the students' second and third years of undergraduate study. Students can engage in up to 3 placements to make up the total time and are required to source the placement(s) themselves with support from the Careers & Employability Team.

Course details


Year 1 will give you a broad understanding of today’s business environment, from organisational operation, trends in economic thinking, to the importance of data in business. You’ll cover topics such as Organisations and the Business Environment; Economics and Globalisation; and Managing Data. In Year 2 you’ll take your knowledge and skills forward to focus on the inner workings of businesses, developing the skills that employers look for. You will learn to form opinions on how businesses manage challenges, you’ll work on projects and use business techniques to solve problems. Year 3 will see you undertake an in-depth business research project in Tourism Management, and give you the chance to plan a business by yourself or with fellow students. Again, you’ll choose other topics that excite you, such as Managing Sustainability; Organisational Strategy; New Trends in Management; and many more. Assessment method

You'll be assessed in a wide range of ways that test your business knowledge and management skills. These could include presentations, work related projects, group-work, computer based simulations, podcasts, examis, essays, videos and business reports.
