Course summary

At Birmingham Newman University, we recognise that teachers come from a diverse community and therefore need access to different routes into the profession. If you are passionate about teaching, this course will equip you with the skills to teach secondary school students across the 11-16 age range, plus post-16, recognised through the award of QTS. The course is designed to provoke thought, challenge assumptions and help develop you as a reflective practitioner of the subject, so that you can enter the teaching profession with clear educational priorities and the skills with which to achieve them. The Undergraduate programme has both a pedagogical and practical aspect. Over the three years you will have regular placements, equating to a minimum of 120* days in school, where you will develop your understanding of the subject alongside the professional skills required to teach. In addition to your main school placements, you will have the opportunity to experience post-16 education, primary school settings and alternative placements. Furthermore, you will develop the skills required to enhance your own professional understanding and develop your own areas of professional interest. *120 days in school maybe subject to change by the Department for Education (DfE).
