Course summary
Sport and physical activity contributes £39 billion to the UK’s economy and the sports landscape comprises a wide array of sports organisations, ranging from large professional clubs, to semi-professional and amateur teams. This course offers a combined pathway for those who want to progress in this industry from teaching, coaching, sports therapy or sport and exercise science. You’ll learn the underpinning theoretical concepts relating to your chosen subject enabling access to careers such as sports marketing, coaching, athletic administration, sports medicine, sport promotion or sport psychology. ALIGNED WITH INDUSTRY Tutors have extensive experience in industry, from managing sport and fitness on cruise ships, to football scouting, sports massage therapy and coaching for Camp America. INDUSTRY RELEVANT You’ll have the opportunity to achieve additional qualifications including: Level 3-4 nationally recognised qualification in Sports Massage. We may also fund a course of your choice in sports coaching. WORK EXPERIENCE You will have the opportunity to network with professional sports clubs and local employers to undertake a valuable work placement. This could take the form of fitness testing with elite athletes, supporting schools with the planning and delivery of sports coaching sessions. Students have the autonomy to choose their work placement. EXPERIENCE OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM Students have taken an annual trip to Europe with funding from the University Centre Advantage Scheme which is a unique fund for students who pay full-time course fees.

Year 1: Anatomy & Physiology, Nutrition, Professional Skills, Community Coaching, Training, Fitness & Testing, Sports Psychology, Sports Massage. Year 2: Entrepreneurship in Sport Exercise, Strength and Conditioning, Exercise Physiology, Sports Analysis, Research Project (Pearson set), Sports Rehabilitation.
Assessment method
The HND is assessed through a variety of methods such as written assignments, course work and practical delivery.
