Welcome to College of Esports BSc (Hons) Games Development course which focuses on developing your Talent, Resilience and Identity in the context of the exciting and international world of esports through our unique TRI-Curriculum approach. This course is about the creation of workflows in technical games development applied to multiple games engines and the create compelling technical features in games for both the esports and wider games industry. The UK games sector is the largest in Europe and the sector is rapidly growing. Ukie’s annual consumer market valuation showed that in 2020 the overall UK games market grew a staggering 30% from the previous year to reach a record £7bn in consumer spend. The Games industry is a highly skills-based industry seeking graduate employment. A typical games studio will have 80 per cent of staff qualified to degree level. At College of Esports we are in a unique position not only to offer you the opportunity to develop games for the wider games industry, but specifically to leverage the partnership with the British Esports Federation and its network to focus part of the course in the development of esports games. The aims of this course are: • To prepare you for a career in the global games or esports industry with the skills of enquiry, within an evidence-based practice-led, knowledge applied interdisciplinary curriculum and performative research framework. • To prepare you with the competencies needed to adapt and thrive in life’s continuously changing environments, employment and an increasingly diverse global society. • To prepare your moral and ethical compass through opportunities to reflect personally and professionally, make an active contribution as global citizens. Course Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: • To demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of games production workflows in multiple games engines • To demonstrate industry level competencies in games documentation and project management skills • To demonstrate the ability to understand players and player communities to create marketable games • To develop leadership skills in the technical games design • To further the field in understanding what it takes to create compelling technical features in esports games Degree Content & Learning Approach: Year One the focus is on Games Design and Production and Technical Games Design in multiple games engines. This will give you the ability to appreciate the fundamental workflows in technical games development. The main feature of the 2nd Year is that you are the Junior Games Development: Pre-Production and the Junior Games Development: Production units. In these units you will work in a multidisciplinary team alongside the Games Art and Games Design Students as the junior games engineer to produce a game. You will work under the senior games engineer. You will also study supporting units in advanced games mechanics and prototyping, which further your competencies in technical games development. The Final Year Project will allow you to demonstrate the area you have most passion for and to take this to a deeper level of knowledge and understanding. You will also challenge and hone your leadership skills as you act as senior games engineer in the Senior Games Development. In these units you will work in a multidisciplinary team alongside the Games Art and Games Design Students as the senior games engineer to produce a game as well as having responsibility for the junior engineers in that team.
