Including 2 science subjects – - Two from Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Biology or Nutrition and Food Science, of which Chemistry is preferred; or
- One from Chemisty, Physics, Maths, Biology or Nutrition and Food Science, of which Chemistry is preferred if applying with PE, Geography, ICT, Applied Science, Environmental Technology or Single Award Life & Health Science
Applied Science Double Award and Life & Health Sciences Double Award are also acceptable as 2 science subjects.

We will also accept smaller BTEC/OCR qualifications (i.e. Diploma or Extended Certificate / Introductory Diploma / Subsidiary Diploma) in combination with A Levels or other acceptable level 3 qualifications.

Pass Northern Ireland Science-based Access Course with a minimum overall mark of 65% and a minimum of 65% in each level 3 module. To include a 20 credit Level 2 Mathematics module, passed at 40% or successful completion of NICATS Mathematics as part of the pre-2021 Access Diploma.
To include BB in Two from Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Biology or Nutrition and Food Science, of which Chemistry is preferred; or
- One from Chemisty, Physics, Maths, Biology or Nutrition and Food Science, of which Chemistry is preferred if applying with PE, Geography, ICT, Applied Science, Environmental Technology or Single Award Life & Health Science
English & Mathematics required at Standard Level 1, 2 or 3
To include Two from Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Biology or Nutrition and Food Science, of which Chemistry is preferred; or
- One from Chemisty, Physics, Maths, Biology or Nutrition and Food Science, of which Chemistry is preferred if applying with PE, Geography, ICT, Applied Science, Environmental Technology or Single Award Life & Health Science
English & Mathematics required at Standard Level 1, 2 or 3
To include 13 points at higher level to include - Two from Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Biology or Nutrition and Food Science, of which Chemistry is preferred; or
- One from Chemisty, Physics, Maths, Biology or Nutrition and Food Science, of which Chemistry is preferred if applying with PE, Geography, ICT, Applied Science, Environmental Technology or Single Award Life & Health Science
At least 6 points must be achieved in each of the two science subjects.
120 UCAS Tariff Points to include a minimum of five subjects (five of which must be Higher Level) to include English at H6 if studied at Higher level or O4 if studied at Ordinary Level.
Course Specific Subject requirements
This course also requires you to achieve H3, H3 in two science subjects:
- Two from Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Biology or Nutrition and Food Science or
- One from Chemisty, Physics, Maths, Biology or Nutrition and Food Science, of which Chemistry is preferred if applying with PE, Geography, ICT, Applied Science, Environmental Technology or Single Award Life & Health Science
If Maths is not passed at H3, it will not count as one of the science subjects, but you must still pass this at H6 if studied at Higher level or O4 if studied at Ordinary Level in addition to meeting the science requirements.
GCSE
You must satisfy the General Entrance Requirements for admission to a first degree course and hold a GCSE pass in English Language at grade C or grade 4 or above (or equivalent). You must also hold a GCSE pass in Mathematics and Chemistry or Double Award Science at grade C or grade 4 or above (or equivalent).
Please note that for purposes of entry to this course the Level 2 Essential / Key Skill in Application of Number is NOT regarded as an acceptable alternative to GCSE Maths.
English language requirements for international applicants
The minimum requirement for this course is Academic IELTS 6.0 with no band score less than 5.5. Trinity ISE: Pass at level III also meets this requirement for Tier 4 visa purposes.
Ulster recognises a number of other English language tests and comparable IELTS equivalent scores.GCSE
