Course summary

Let your imagination run wild with our Concept Art and Illustration BA (Hons) Degree course. If you have a flair for creating characters, creatures and environments, this programme will take your career to the next level. Learn to visualise the ideas that modellers, animators and VFX teams will bring to life in computer games, films, comics and animation. Our creative programme will allow you to develop technical skills, refine your artistic ability and bring your visions to life. You will learn specialist skills ranging from digital art techniques to traditional drawing. This programme supports your personal development from student to artist. Working across multiple disciplines you will gain a unique insight into the industry that will allow you to understand how roles work together to create final products. Our exciting industry links will prepare you for the working world by exposing you to insight from guest lecturers and local practitioners. Based at Mabgate Campus, you’ll use specialist art studios and technical suites to unlock your visual ideas and craft your concepts.

Assessment method

You will be assessed in a variety of ways including: practical tasks, portfolio work, Live Briefs, essays, case studies and presentations.

Qualified teacher status (QTS)

Entry requirements

Qualification requirements

GCSE English: English Language grade 4 or above. Key Skills Level 2, Functional Skills Level 2 and the Certificate in Adult Literacy are accepted in place of GCSEs. International qualifications: International qualifications will be assessed against these criteria IELTS: IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any component. Mature applicants: University Centre Leeds welcomes applications from mature* applicants who may not have met the academic criteria, but who can demonstrate a wealth of experience in their chosen field. Candidates in this category and otherwise are likely to be interviewed to assess their suitability for the course and may be asked to provide a portfolio of evidence to support their application. *21 years and over at the start of the course
