Course summary
Our MA in Art Writing with Integrated International Pre-Masters is a year-long preparatory course of study to ready you for your Master’s in the UK, developing your English speaking and writing together with your specialist skills, research acumen and confidence in working autonomously. UCA's new MA in Art Writing is designed to help you become an expert in the conceptual and analytic understanding of contemporary art. Through small group seminar teaching at UCA Canterbury, you will use writing as your tool to articulate ideas, analytic methods and research projects – whether it's a short review, an essay, a draft document or a longer analytical study. The skills you will gain on this course will intensively prepare you for doctoral study (available at UCA), as well as for working professionally and strategically in cultural institutions of all kinds, and engaging with participants and organizations in all sectors of the global art world. You’ll develop a deep and independent theoretical understanding of contemporary art and its interactive relationship to decolonial ideas and practices. You will be introduced to critical research methodologies, which you'll employ as you undertake an independent research project. The course runs alongside our MA Fine Art course and there will be many opportunities to meet other students, develop collaborative projects and form a professional network that will give you a strong foundation on which to build or extend your career ambitions.
