Course description You'll learn from our academics who have expertise in related disciplines including sociolinguistics, critical discourse analysis and corpus linguistics. We have particular expertise in second language acquisition, academic writing, vocabulary acquisition, English for Specific Purposes (ESP), materials design and testing. Focus on key areas of learning and teaching second languages, including:
- Language teaching methodology
- Teaching skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) and systems (grammar, vocabulary and discourse)
- Materials selection and use
- Classroom pedagogy and reflective practice
- You’ll study theoretical approaches to TESOL in the research environment of an academic department, and put these into practice in our English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC).

English language requirements: IELTS 7 (with 6.5 in each component) or University equivalent
Entry requirements
Minimum 2:1 undergraduate honours degree in English or a related subject. We accept degrees in the following subject areas: Didactics Education English English Language English Teaching (TESOL/TEFL/ELT) Linguistics Modern Languages Pedagogy We may consider other English or language-based degrees depending on the amount of Linguistics and/or teaching modules studied.
