Entry requirements

Qualification requirements

Please note that we have no preference for whether the third or fourth A-level subject (or further subject in equivalent qualifications) is a science or not. We expect you to have taken and passed any practical component in your chosen science subjects. Your chances of being short-listed rest on a number of factors, although we do rely heavily on UCAT scores (see: https://www.ucat.ac.uk/) and GCSEs (for those applicants who have taken them) during short-listing. There is no GCSE cut-off, but most applicants hold a broad range of GCSEs in both sciences and arts subjects. You should have top results - that is, a good proportion of 9s/8s (or A*s) - for your application to be competitive. On average, our applicants hold around 80% of GCSEs passes at grades 8 or 9 (A*) and have 8.5 passes at grades 8 or 9 (A*). Students with degrees may apply for the standard course. There are no places specifically reserved for graduates, and there is no separate application process. Graduates are in open competition with school-leavers, and need to fulfil the same entrance requirements. See www.medsci.ox.ac.uk/study/medicine for further information and details of eligibility. A range of other international qualifications is also acceptable for entry. Please see ox.ac.uk/intquals for further information.
