Course summary
Paramedics are on the frontline managing life threatening emergency situations, treating patients for all types of illness and injuries. This rewarding career will have you working alongside other healthcare professionals, providing medical assistance at anytime, in any place. Our paramedic science degree will equip you with the experience, knowledge and skills required to deliver vital medical support to those that need it urgently. We deliver your degree with enhanced technology and active approaches to both learning and teaching, on campus and during your practice placements. You will benefit from unrivalled access to our state-of-the-art simulation facilities, based at our Hospital and Primary Care Training Hub. Once you graduate, you will be eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.
Modules
Year 1: Foundations of Paramedic Practice/Professional Values (Mental Wealth), Patient Assessment and Management, Clinical Sciences for Paramedics, Behavioural and Population Sciences for Paramedics, Paramedic Practice, Assessing Evidence in Paramedic Practice. Year 2: Patient Assessment and Management, Paramedic Practice, Clinical Sciences for Paramedics, Pathophysiology and Disease Process for Paramedics, Understanding Epidemiology, Demand, and Response in Unscheduled Care, Research Methods. Year 3: Paramedic Practice, Patient Assessment and Management, Pharmacology and Medicines Management, Enhancing Response through Interprofessional Approaches to Care and Management, Literature Search, Research Governance and Leadership.
Assessment method
Assessment tasks are mainly spread across the year to make the workload manageable. Assessment methods include group work, exams and individual work including essays, presentations, case studies, professional development and practical activities depending on the nature of the course. All grades count towards your module mark. More details will be included in the student handbook and module guides.
