Electronic and Computer Engineering with a Year Abroad (Year 2 out)

Course summary

In a world filled with smart devices to a global need to create green energy, our course provides a detailed insight into the computing systems and software needed to advance all technology. A lot of the things you learn will be done in labs either working individually and through group projects. You'll study subjects such as analogue and digital electronics, circuits and systems, computing, communications and the application of electrical energy. During your second year, you can study at either our China or Malaysia campus where you will have the opportunity to experience differing cultures. The curriculum is exactly the same as that of the UK and all teaching is in English. Your year will be spent studying core modules, and depending on the subject specialisms you have selected, appropriate optional modules. When you graduate from this course, your combined knowledge of hardware and software engineering means you will enjoy a rewarding career in whatever industry you choose. All our electrical and electronic courses have the same content in year one and two so by year three, you can choose the topics that interest you. Our four-year MEng course is the preferred route to achieving Chartered Engineer status. It will give you a deeper understanding of the role of electrical engineering compared to our BEng course.

Modules

All students follow a common programme in year one and you will study topics such as engineering mathematics, power and energy and information and systems. In year two, you will study on our campus in China or Malaysia where you will develop your design skills through a variety of lab based subjects. Modules include digital communications and practical engineering design solutions. Year three topics include advanced engineering mathematics, analogue electronics and integrated circuits and systems, as well as a range of optional modules. In your final year, you will undertake an individual project and study state-of-the-the-art technologies. In many cases, this project contributes to the major industrially related programmes undertaken by research groups within the department.
