The MFA Dance Science is a 2-year research-focused postgraduate programme, which broadens the possibilities within dance science research and study. The first year shares module content with students on the MSc Dance Science programme. An extended independent project forms the second year, as the defining feature of the MFA Dance Science The programme explores aspects of dance practice and performance through a range of scientific disciplines and in a variety of dance contexts. You will investigate ways of enhancing dance practice, optimising dancer performance, reducing injury occurrence, and examining the impact of dance on other populations. From both a theoretical and applied perspective, the programme engages with qualitative and quantitative modes of research and practice, integrating interdisciplinary elements of dance science such as physiology, biomechanics, psychology and embodied practices (e.g. somatics). Scientific research methods and modes of statistical analyses are central to the taught programme in the first year. Key Features
During the application and audition process, you must select which instrument(s) you wish to specialise in for the duration of your course. On this course, you can choose from the following options:
Only one specialism is studied. It may be possible to study a further instrument, but this will not contribute towards the qualification.
For all courses, you must select at least one specialism from the 'primary' list. For those studying primary/secondary pathways, two instruments may be selected – one from the 'primary' list and one from the 'secondary' list. Joint pathway students may select any two instruments from either list.
*If you are an international applicant, or you are applying for a postgraduate course, or are choosing certain assessment locations, the 'on time' deadline may be later in the year - please contact the conservatoire directly.
This is the deadline for applications to be completed and sent for this course. If the university or college still has places available you can apply after this date, but your application is not guaranteed to be considered.
The following entry points are available for this course:
We welcome applications from across the world and accept a wide range of international qualifications. For more information please see www.trinitylaban.ac.uk/student-life/international-students
Applicants are expected to have an appropriate first degree (or an equivalent qualification). Applicants without formal qualification are subject to the Institution’s recognition of prior learning (RPL) process. Decisions are made by the RPL Panel with delegated authority from the Assessment Board. An External Examiner may decide toscrutinise the evidence supporting a claim as part of the Assessment Board process.
In the event of a successful assessment, applicants may be invited for a further interview prior to being made an offer.

You may be also be asked to attend an interview as part of your application. Additional requirements for MFA In addition to the brief commentary submitted in UCAS Conservatoires application, applicants should submit a proposal, outlining: *the reasons you wish to carry out an independent project over a full academic year; *your suitability for extended independent research in the context of an MFA Dance Science; *the nature of your intended research and a clear research question you would like to investigate; *a draft project timeline with potential research outputs (which is understandably subject to change). Applicants to the MFA will also be required to undertake an interview (if not in person, phone/Skype interview can be arranged).
