Course summary
The MA in Applied Theology at Regents is designed to develop your ability to creatively engage with the problems you encounter in your mission and ministry. The modules seek to foster a depth of biblical insight with (self-) critical theological reflection on a wide variety of relevant topics, challenging your preconceptions, and constructively resourcing your independent and original contributions to the issues explored. The fundamental premise behind our postgraduate programmes is that faith and critical reflection belong together. When faith seeks understanding, the results should include a more coherent, creative application of the Gospel and its life-transforming implications into the church, the world and the workplace. The MA programme is designed to help you engage with critical and innovative research, enhancing your methodological skills and research expertise. The programme provides a suitable basis for those wishing to pursue further research at PhD level. The MA programme can be accessed as a one year (full-time) or two years (part-time) course of study. The MA comprises one compulsory module, three optional modules and a dissertation. Available postgraduate optional modules cover significant areas within the discipline of Applied Theology, including biblical studies, church leadership and discipleship, chaplaincy studies, and Pentecostal theology and spirituality. The opening compulsory module Thinking Theologically introduces you to the skills required for engaging in theological study, allowing you to develop your skills through exploring an assessment topic related to your area of interest. The final dissertation also allows you to investigate a topic relevant to your interests or professional goals. Modules are taught by both in-house and adjunct faculty, who deliver specialist subject expertise whilst supporting you to become an innovative and independent learner. All modules are validated for delivery at the Malvern campus, whilst a selection of modules are also validated for delivery at Kensington Temple (London). It is possible to complete much of the MA programme from London if desired, depending upon the combination of modules chosen, except for the compulsory module Thinking Theologically, which is delivered at the Malvern campus.
Entry requirements
Regents Theological College is an approved academic partner of the University of Chester. The MA in Applied Theology is validated by the University of Chester and students who successfully complete the programme will be eligible for a University of Chester award. Entry requirements are as follows: - An initial degree in Theology or Applied Theology, and/or Religious Studies; OR - An initial degree in another subject, together with evidence of certificated learning in Theology and/or Applied Theology and/or Religious Studies, or substantial related experience; OR - A non-graduate qualification, with substantial professional experience in theology or ministry, evidenced in a summary of non-certificated and experiential learning. A Statement of Comparability from UK ENIC and/or a recognised English language qualification may be required from students applying on the basis of non-UK qualifications. The college is unable to issue CAS numbers for UK visa applications to international students.
