Our MChem Forensic Chemistry programme offers a bespoke learning experience at the intersection of chemistry and forensic science, covering everything from fundamental chemical principles to crime scene investigation and courtroom practice. In your first two years, you’ll build a solid foundation across the core areas of chemistry, with analytical topics taught through the lens of forensic evidence analysis. Alongside this, you’ll develop key skills in forensic investigation and identification, crime scene analysis, and the investigation of drugs and drug-related crime. Your learning will be supported through interactive teaching, workshops and small group activities, as well as frequent opportunities to apply key concepts in laboratory classes and other practical exercises including crime scene simulations in a range of authentic settings. Throughout the programme you will have opportunities to tailor your learning to your interests and career aspirations with optional modules, as well as undertaking an independent research project in year three and a year-long research project in a topic related to forensic chemistry in year four. In the later stages of your degree, you will refine your development as a well-rounded forensic chemist, building advanced skills in data analysis, problem-solving, and professional forensic practice, including certified expert-witness training.
