Course summary

Join our BEng (Hons) Product Design Engineering programme to start an exciting journey of transformation. On this course, you will learn how to combine design principles, engineering science, and manufacturing expertise, shaping your future as a product design engineer. This comprehensive course will prepare you for the ever-changing demands of product and design engineering and help you build a strong foundation in engineering product design. You will receive a comprehensive education in product design engineering. This will include learning about design principles, ergonomics, and manufacturing processes, crucial for a product design engineer. You will gain a solid understanding of these topics. You will also have the opportunity to apply what you have learned in practical ways. We will teach you how to merge your engineering-reinforced design education with analytical skills and a strong manufacturing base. This will ensure you excel in engineering product design and develop innovative designs as a skilled product design engineer. Throughout your studies, you will have access to cutting-edge facilities, essential for a product design engineer. These include CAD suites, control and power electronics labs, and a 5-axis robot for experimentation in large-format production. These facilities will help you gain hands-on experience and stay at the forefront of product and design engineering while mastering engineering product design.

Assessment method

We assess your progress through various methods, such as personal and group tutorials. You will produce presentations where your work is appraised by a panel of teaching staff and by a peer group of students. You will carry out activities in the workshop and laboratory, at the same time as being assessed. This means you will receive formative feedback regularly. This advice assists the learning process and improves the quality of work before the final hand-in. The modules are assessed differently, some through assignments and exams, others through assignments alone. Design modules require a series of presentations for each project throughout the course. You will present your work to your colleagues and teachers highlighting details relating to your primary research, concept developments, and the fabrication of design(s), as well as a concluding pitch of your chosen final design. You will also develop a creative portfolio of work. Feedback is provided within 15 working days in line with UEL's assessment and feedback policy.
