If you are an experienced ELT teacher looking for a new challenge, this could be the course for you. The MA ELT (Distance Learning) provides you with the opportunity to extend your professional knowledge and skills and reflect on your own teaching and learning context. You will have the opportunity to pursue your own professional interests by either completing a Dissertation on a topic of your choice or taking our innovative Materials Development for TESOL module in which you design a set of teaching and learning materials for your own professional setting. Modules
Year 1 Core modules: Grammar & Assessment for Language Teaching Second Language Teaching and Learning Professional Practice in ELT Year 2 Core module: Current Issues in TESOL Option modules: You will either study Materials Development for TESOL or Dissertation. Assessment method
Throughout the course you’ll experience a variety of teaching and learning techniques including lectures, seminars, group and individual tutorials. You’ll receive training from the Academic Librarian on information and research skills and about electronic methods of accessing library facilities for Masters’ students. A number of assessment methods may be used on the course, including essays, poster presentations, lesson plans, microteaching, case studies and materials development. Your module specification/course handbook will provide full details of the assessment criteria applying to your course. Feedback is normally provided on all coursework submissions within three term time weeks – unless the submission was made towards the end of the session in which case feedback would be available on request after the formal publication of results. Feedback on exam performance/final coursework is available on request after the publication of results.
Entry requirements
You should: * Have an honours degree in a relevant subject at 2:2 or above, or a professional equivalent. * Have a minimum of two years full-time experience in teaching English to speakers of other languages. * Be currently working as an ELT teacher. * The University will determine whether a degree can be recognised as UK equivalent.
English language requirements
If your first language is not English, you will need to meet the minimum requirements of an English Language qualification. The minimum for IELTS is 6.5 overall with no element lower than 6.0, or equivalent will be considered acceptable.

Additional fee information
The part-time tuition fee for UK postgraduate students on this course will be £575 (Band 1) per 15 credit module.
