Course summary
Develop your skills and understanding of the core concepts of Clinical Education and become an exceptional education practitioner. Rooted in workplace learning, our course is designed to encourage you to make critical and creative connections between your own and your students’ perspectives and practice on teaching, learning and assessment. Whether you're from clinical settings or Higher Education institutions, this course will develop your understanding of the education and assessment of the next generation of clinical practitioners. With us, you will:
- Debate and discuss the central themes and issues in clinical education.
- Explore the differences between clinical and educational research.
- Undertake introductory research training in educational research.
- Design and conduct small-scale empirical research on a topic relevant to the clinical education workplace.
- Complete two compulsory modules in the second year (PGDip year) in a specified order.
Modules
The MEd offers a deep and critical knowledge of the policy and practice of clinical education and of the research which it inspires. You will learn with and from an interdisciplinary and interprofessional team of tutors and peers in a collaborative and participative learning environment. Your learning throughout the course will draw on, and make connections to your real world experience as a clinical educator.
Assessment method
Developing Educational Practice is assessed by an essay and a group project followed by an individual written assignment. Researching Clinical Education is assessed by the production of a research proposal and protocol. You will be required to complete each module and associated coursework successfully before proceeding to the next module. Your results in all modules count towards the final qualification.
Entry requirements
A bachelor (hons) degree in a health-related subject with at least a 2:2. Entry on the appropriate professional register It is a course requirement that you be working in a clinical or educational setting with the opportunity to engage in some form of teaching, training, or mentoring. Accreditation of prior learning to allow entry at a later stage in the course will be considered on a case by case basis, dependent on the qualifications held and evidence provided. International students Due to the nature of blended teaching in the first year of the programme (PG Cert level), the first year is not available to study by applicants who are outside the UK. Direct entry to year 2 of the programme (PG Dip level) is available to international applicants who already have a PG Cert in Clinical, Medical or Healthcare Professional Education. Direct entry to year 3 of the programme (MEd level) is only possible if applicants hold a PG Diploma in Clinical, Medical or Healthcare Professional Education studied at the University of Leeds. Language requirement is IELTS 7.0 overall, with no less than 6.5 in any component. English language requirements IELTS 7.0 overall, with no less than 6.5 in any component.. International students who do not meet the English language requirements for the programme may be able to study an English for Academic Purposes pre-sessional course with a progression route to the degree programme.
