Course summary

This course has been designed to build on existing design related experience and help further develop and support students to fulfil their ambitions and function professionally in the design arena. On the top up course, you will enhance your passion for high level ideas generation in your chosen pathway and will develop the links between technology and the user. The course also helps you undertake the professional networking possibilities communicating with leading industries in your field to set the fundamental foundations needed to ‘go it alone’ or as part of a team when you graduate. The programme is designed to allow you to work more independently whilst exploring your chosen pathway with the aim of progressing into employment or further study at MA level. You will be asked to keep a portfolio of work to track your development as a designer towards the goals you set for yourself in consultation with your personal tutor. We aim to train you to take responsibility for your own learning and career development, to be able to evaluate your strengths and weaknesses and conduct a skills audit to develop a critical practice. As a member of the team you will undertake external and internal work experience in our 'design studio' as part of a professional studio practice based environment.

Modules

You will study a range of core modules, including: • Personal Project • Honours Project • External Project

Assessment method

There are formative and summative feedback critique sessions of all assignments which are assessed and graded at the end of the module.

Additional Selection Criteria: Meeting the minimum entry requirement for a course does not necessarily guarantee a place. Entry to all courses is subject to a successful interview. When assessing an application, we take into account your grades, predicted grades, reference and personal statement. From your personal statement and interview, we consider your motivation and commitment to success, and any relevant experience you may have. For some courses, we may also ask for a portfolio of appropriate work or an audition. For some courses, students may be required to find a work placement prior to enrolment and/or undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check. These requirements will be discussed at interview. Mature Students: We recognise that some mature students may not meet the standard entry requirements but may have gained knowledge and skills from relevant work or life experience and, therefore, we would consider your application on an individual basis. We would take into account your work and life experience and may ask you to discuss this in more details at interview. Interview: All applicants are invited to attend an interview with either the Course Leader or Course Tutor. You will be notified of your interview by our Admissions Team who will also update UCAS Track with details of your application.
