Join our TEAM: Together Everyone Achieves More On this 2-year Foundation Degree you will study a range of modules covering different sport, physical education, exercise, coaching and health related topics. The programme has a focus on physical education and sports coaching to support lifelong learning and development. The programme recognises the synergy between the disciplines of physical education and sports coaching by providing a variety of exciting and creative learning opportunities for learners to gain knowledge and experience of how they complement one another in practice. You will study a range of modules covering different themes related to physical education and sport coaching. - For example, pedagogical approaches to teaching and learning, understanding the athlete, performance assessment and reflection. Throughout the programme you will be given the opportunity to research your chosen areas of interest relating to physical education and sport coaching. During the second year of the programme a work-based placement opportunity will be incorporated in to one of the modules and will be linked to assessment. The work-based placement will give the students the opportunity to experience a real working environment related to their studies (physical education and sport coaching) and to enable them to develop a range of skills required within their chosen field. This will include communication, organisation, time management teamwork and collaboration within an authentic work setting. Once you’ve successfully completed the degree you’ll have a clear understanding of the industry, relevant practical skills, as well as the academic understanding that will allow you to progress onto the BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching and Health Sciences (Top Up), or into employment.

Modules

Level 4 – Year 1 (Certificate Stage) In your first year, you will build a solid base of practical skills and theory, which will help underpin all your studies. Modules: Multidisciplinary Sport and Exercise 1 Principles of Teaching and Coaching Understanding Sporting Performance Practical Skill Development for Sport Coaching and Physical Education Level 5 – Year 2 (Foundation Degree Stage) In your second year, you will expand your knowledge and skills, ensuring that you are ready to enter employment or continue to a third year top up. Modules: Multidisciplinary Sport and Exercise 2 Physical Education and the School Sport Curriculum Applied Teaching and Coaching Research and Project Development

Assessment method

A wide range of assessment methods, including individual and group work will be a key feature of the programme. The selected assessment methods will be appropriate to the demands of each module and will allow the students to demonstrate their abilities in different ways. An essential part of the programme is the integration of assessments which are grounded in real life experience and industry expectations. Learners can expect to be assessed utilising Essays, Presentations (in a variety of formats), Literature reviews, Reports, Group projects, Examinations and Practical assessments.

Qualification requirements

Standard offer Standard entry requirement for the degree will be 48 UCAS points from Advanced Level studies, Access to HE or other relevant Level 3 qualification. Non-standard offer The TEC Partnership will also encourage applications from non-traditional learners who lack formal academic qualifications.
