Religion and Theology at York St John University - UCAS

Course summary

At York St John University we approach theology not as just an abstract concept but as something that is rooted in the realities of everyday life. The modules you will study on this course examine the connections between religion and contentious issues in modern life, such as:

  • The gap between wealth and poverty
  • Relationships between races and genders
  • The influence of the media
  • The role of ethics in life and death decisions
  • Environmental issues and sustainability
  • The morality of war
You will also learn about the philosophies and historical events that have shaped today’s world. There will be opportunities to explore the questions raised by religion and philosophy from the perspective of other academic subjects, such as literature, art, politics and film. The course also allows for creative expression, as you convey your ideas through artwork, posters and creative writing. This course will give you a deep understanding of the relationship between religion, theology and the wider world. Whether you are a person of faith, agnostic or atheist, this course is based around discussion, debate and sharing ideas, and all perspectives are welcome. We will always encourage you to do your own research and form informed responses to the complex questions raised. By giving you vital transferable skills and offering opportunities for work related learning, we also make sure you are ready for your career.
