BSc Economics (Top Up Degree) enables you to top up your higher education qualification to a bachelor’s degree even if you have not studied Economics previously. Our one-year top up degree focusses on the core elements of economics such as Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics and quantitative methods attractive to applicants with a background in subjects such as maths, science, finance or statistics. Modules on the Top Up Degree are co-taught with the BSc Economics programme ensuring that you benefit from mixed cohorts and gain insight from a diverse range of cultures and backgrounds to enhance your cross-cultural understanding and develop networks. Assessment method

Our courses consist of in-person, on-campus teaching, enabling full engagement with your lecturers and fellow students. Practical skills sessions and workshops allow for group working and demonstrations. Our approach may also include the use of some online learning to support and enhance traditional face-to-face teaching. Lecture recordings allow for more flexibility to revisit material, to revise for assessments and to enhance learning outside of the classroom. Some modules have extra resources in Canvas, such as videos, slides and quizzes enabling further flexible study.

Applicants will typically have studied a Foundation Degree, HND or equivalent. Ideally, applicants will have a quantitative background in a subject allied to economics such as International Economy and Trade; Business and Management; Financial Management, Finance, Mathematics and Statistics where there is evidence of principles of economics having previously been studied. Applicants with a background in science subjects such as Civil Engineering, could also be accepted if there is evidence of quantitative modules having previously been taken. In summary, applicants will typically have experience of introductory economic principles or a strong quantitative background. Students will be admitted on the basis of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). As a guideline, below are examples of the overall grades we would typically accept, subject to a match in prior study: • SQA - Grade B classification overall • HND - Merit • Associate Degree GPA 3.0 or 75% • Dazhuan - 75% Applicants will be expected to have English Language proficiency to the standard of IELTS 6.0 with no component less than 5.5 or equivalent. For students who fall short of only the English language requirement we offer a range of pre-sessional training programmes that you may take before starting your degree programme.
