Course summary

Our MSc Civil Engineering degree will develop your engineering expertise in line with the ever-changing demands of the profession. We will enhance your knowledge in all the essential areas, from geotechnical, structural, and transportation engineering to design and construction management, and we will make sure your research skills are sharp enough to give you a competitive edge when you embark on your career. Our campus location in the heart of London's Docklands will allow you to see up close the challenges, and opportunities, for the next generation of engineers such as intensive urbanisation and major economic regeneration. We have excellent links with major employers in the industry, including Atkins, Waterman Group, Thames Water, and the London Borough of Newham. We will get your engineering career off to the best possible start. This degree is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) comprising the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Structural Engineers, the Institute of Highway Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, and the Permanent Way Institution on behalf of the Engineering Council as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for candidates who have already acquired a partial CEng accredited undergraduate first degree. * See www.jbm.org.uk for further information. *It should be noted that candidates completing the MSc who hold an underpinning accredited IEng degree or a non-accredited bachelor's degree will need to apply for an academic assessment to determine whether they will meet the educational base for CEng registration. Assessment method

We assess you through a mixture of coursework, design drawings, oral examinations, your research dissertation and an end of term exam.

Entry requirements

Bachelor's degree BEng with minimum Second Class (2:2) or BSc with minimum Upper Second Class (2:1) in Civil Engineering. MICE and MIStructrE also accepted. We accept a wide range of European and international qualifications in addition to A-levels, the International Baccalaureate and BTEC qualifications.
