Course summary

Manufacturing engineering involves the research and development of systems, processes, machines, tools and equipment. Our three year PhD is based within the Faculty of Engineering enabling you to choose from a wide range of research areas and work across traditional research boundaries being part of interdisciplinary teams. The project can cover many different fields within this discipline, these are just an example of some fields you could consider:

  • design
  • manufacturing
  • assembly
  • measurement
  • testing
  • modelling
Our research work spans a range of applications including:
  • medicine
  • aerospace and automotive engineering
  • energy and the construction industry
  • sustainable design and development
It also includes work from the most fundamental studies up to near-commercial investigations.


Entry requirements

2.1 degree (or international equivalent) and/or a Master's at merit level or above in a relevant subject. English language requirements: IELTS 6.0 (no less than 5.5 in any element).
