Course summary

The programme is designed to provide advanced training in clinically applied human anatomy. The programme is built around core dissection-based modules and offers you the opportunity to conduct whole body dissection in a newly developed Thiel embalmed and plastination facility. You can tailor the programme to suit your individual interests and will learn from expert tutors as well as experienced clinicians. This programme is designed especially for intercalated medical students, anatomy teachers, trainee surgeons, physiotherapists, sports scientists and other health professionals. In addition to developing advanced anatomical skills and knowledge, this programme provides a comprehensive professional education that focuses on developing teachers and researchers of anatomy. You will be trained in pedagogical techniques that will allow you to teach anatomy to students and health care professionals. The main location for this programme is the University of Hull, with some elective modules offered at the University of York.

Modules

Core modules: Clinical anatomy of the limbs and spine; clinical anatomy of the trunk; clinical anatomy of the head and neck; research project/dissertation. Research electives: Research methods and statistics; research approaches in health professions education. Anatomy electives: Hard tissue biology; human evolutionary anatomy; clinical microanatomy; clinical neuroanatomy; radiological anatomy. Education electives: Learning and teaching; assessment and feedback; contemporary issues in health professions education; anatomy pedagogy. Imaging electives: Image analysis; imaging modalities 1; imaging modalities 2.


Entry requirements

Applicants must have previous training in human or mammalian biology (such as graduates from medical, biomedical, anatomical science, veterinary medicine, and zoology backgrounds). Intercalating students must have successfully completed of a minimum of three years of an MB, BS or comparable medical qualification. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum 6.0 in all competences) or equivalent.
